The great value of Rimbaud's work is that its meaning grows with time. His books may be difficult to read, but the effects are lifelong. They are, in short, demanding. Fitting into the realms of escapist entertainment; lesser works are simply read then forgotten. This Crippled Flesh is genuinely radical literature, which will take some readers to places they would rather not go, which is the very purpose of real literature. How else can anything truly change?
